April 2010 Wallpapers

Here’s the April 2010 wallpaper in both 2560×1600 and 1280×853, shot en route to the Maasai Mara this past January. We stopped to pee at the equator, to see a demonstration of the Coriolis effect, and for some die-hards to buy yet another wooden giraffe.

This ought to both make up for the month of pink we’ve just had and get your wanderlust peaked all at the same time. I head to Italy soon, and Mexico after that, so with any luck this might be the last you see of Kenya for a while 🙂

Click the image above to get the small wallpaper, and HERE to get the large one. Enjoy!

  1. If you set this image up as a background on a laptop and then view it down from the top edge the sun gets a freaky black hole look. At least if does on my MacBook Pro.

  2. The coriolis effect: I once believed it worked in a sink or a loo. But no, it’s only effective on big (weather-system) scales. Once saw a great demo of how to fake it: fill a bowl, turn left, let out the plug. Fill a bowl, turn right, let out the plug. Local friction (or inertia?) will make it go either way.
But I love Jim’s idea of confused ants!
Happy travels. Looking forward to seeing more.

  3. Thanks for another great wallpaper! Both my wife and I always look foward to the new one coming, so thanks again.

And personally, I’ve loved the Kenya pics, but I’m always excited something different.

Hope the upcoming trips go well.

  4. Mr. David – Speaking of the Coriolis effect, I was hoping when you were on the Equator you would open a photo in CS4, and make a selection just to see what would happen to the the Marching Ants – would they scatter? Or would they hunker down in place awaiting external forces to put them in motion again, once they were off the Equator?
    Save travels, my friend!!
