Win My Favourite Camera Bag (+More!)

In Uncategorized by David810 Comments

In French, my last name, duChemin, means “of the road.” I was born to travel. I got my first passport just six weeks after I was born, and took my first international flight when I was six months old. I’ve now photographed in 59 countries and all seven continents. It’s fair to say I’ve packed a lot of bags and have some strong opinions about the gear I choose to travel with.

For the last 15 years, Gura Gear has been with me on every trip. I use their Kiboko 30L camera bags, the Chobe computer satchel, and now their Mara duffel bags. In every one of those bags, you’ll find their various EtCetera accessory pouches keeping me organized. I love the design, rely on the quality, and am so proud and grateful to have Gura Gear support my work. And, though you shouldn’t need it, its customer support is second to none.

So late last year, they reached out and asked, “Can we send you anything?” I looked around my office at all the piles of gear and the bags those piles would go in and, probably for the first time ever, thought, “Wow—there’s nothing I need.” I didn’t even recognize myself as I said it.

But then I thought of you and asked if they’d be willing to share that same love with you. It wasn’t just an immediate yes; they said, “Send us a list.” So I did, and not only did they give me everything on that list, they added to it. And together, we’re giving it all away.

Gura Gear is giving us three great prizes, and all you have to do is leave a comment here on my blog (below) by February 07 to enter. We’ll then do a random draw on February 08 and select three names for the following prizes:

First prize is a Kiboko 30L+ Camera Backpack (black). WINNER: Alison Bowditch

This is the same bag I’ve travelled the world with for the last 15+ years, though it’s been updated with a laptop sleeve. This bag is one of the lightest on the market, fits into every plane I’ve ever been on except the smallest regional jets, but that’s not fair because nothing much bigger than a laptop fits into those overhead bins, though even then it will fit under the seat. It’s also one of the few bags that will take a 600/4.0 lens. The design is exceptional, and the build quality is brilliant. I’ve carried this bag comfortably through too many airports to count, and it has never let me down.

How much do I love this bag? I have eight of them in all different sizes and colours. Don’t judge me; I like my camera bags, and I’m a weak man.

Me and my Mara 60L Duffel. Dressing to match is entirely optional.

Second prize is a 60L Mara Duffel Bag (Sahara). WINNER: Aaron Carpenter

This is the same bag I’ve packed for next month’s month-long trip to Kenya. Made from the same X-pac fabric used for their camera bags, it’s the lightest and most durable fabric available. I can put a lot of stuff into this bag, and the internal pockets help keep it organized. With great grab handles and comfortable backpack straps (if you want them), this duffle is my new favourite.

Third prize is an accessories package. WINNER: Troy Patterson

Three EtCetera pouches (one medium, one small, one x-small), a Tembo card wallet, and one of their brand new tech organizers (so new I’m not sure it’s even on the website yet). If you keep saying you’re finally going to get all those little bits and pieces organized, this will help. My bags and Pelican cases are full of the EtCetera pouches—they’re the only way I can keep track of all the smaller bits of gear, the batteries, the chargers and cables, etc. This package is worth about USD$150.

That’s almost $1,000 worth of some of the best kit I’ve ever used, and GuraGear is just giving it away, no strings attached. All you have to do is leave a comment on my blog. How easy is that?

Just keep scrolling to the comments and tell me you’re in. Say “Pick me!” or “Thank you” or “I like bears.” It doesn’t matter what you say; just tell me you want your name in the draw. Want bonus points? You could make sure you’re following @gura.gear and me (@davidduchemin) on Instagram. It won’t increase your chance of winning, but we’d feel the love, and you can’t have too much love these days.

I use every one of these bags and pouches almost every day that I’m working and travelling. My relationship with Gura Gear is a long one, and I’ve bought most of these bags with my own money because they’re worth every penny. But I’m excited for some of you to get your hands on them. I’ll do the draw on February 07 and announce the winners with an update to this post here on my blog on February 08.

Good Luck!

For the Love of the Photograph,
David

  1. I’ve enjoyed watching the growth of Craft & Vision over the years…and especially your recovery from your accident and loss. Thanks for your sharing, teaching and humor.

  2. Just discovered one of your books in my local book shop and couldn’t stop reading. You inspired me to dig deeper in photography and answered a lot of my questions. Thanks a lot!

  3. Hi David, OMG – serendipity happening right now with your giveaway. I’ve looked at Gura Gear bags in the past because of your recommendations over the years. While always in my mind, I just haven’t had the need to purchase a new bag (I’ve purchased many over the years). And now, I find myself looking for my (next) perfect camera bag that will fit the gear I want/need to take on an African safari – and as I search and search a whole lotta different options, take measurements, dimensions, consider weight etc etc, I have discovered that the bag you’re giving away – the Gura Gear Kiboko 30L – will be the perfect choice. Gotta be in it to win it, right! So now I cross my fingers.

  4. I really enjoy your inspiring emails, books and videos. Would enjoy it even more with a new camera bag

Either way… keep up the good work!

Either way… keep up the good work!

  6. I like bears. I had one as a kid until it decided to chow down on the family dog. .. .. Just the same I like bears. Grizzly Bears .. and I like Bear Camps like the one I’ll be part of in October :). It would be wonderful to have a snappy new camera bag to stuff with my gear in October. Did I say that I’ll be photographing Grizzly Bears feeding on Salmon this October? No. Well, I am, and I am supercharged to do that.

  7. I’m just starten on photography by Mamiya 645 I was given as a gift by my uncle an I just need everything besides that camera so please do give a rookie a Chance!

  8. I deeply respect how you balance humanity and the mastery of the craft in your work. Much-needed and very inspiring

  9. Thank you for sharing your life’s passion and your advices!
I never win in any raffle but who knows may be this one will different 🙂

  10. I’ve got two books and two courses, and followed for many, many years. Your storytelling photos are epic, and absolutely love Develop What it Feels Like! I’m still lugging around my old bag I got on ebay, and just got back from a Yellowstone trip where EVERYONE were carrying Gura Gear bags. I fell in those with those immediately. Tried to swap but no takers lol…

  11. Thanks for being such a positive presence and for all you do David! You’re a special person. I learn alot from you and really like the way you think about life. Besides having thoroughly enjoyed watching the development of your own creative process, I feel blessed that you have so generously and bravely shared what you have been learning along the way, Your ideas, thoughts and philosophical view of the ups and downs of life and creativity are encouraging, uplifting and much appreciated!

  12. First time commenting, I’ve been following a while and reading your blog. I am very much an information seeker and love to read everything in your blog. Keep up the great work and generous spirit. Cheers

  13. My theory of bags (camera, travel, briefcase, purse, whatever): No matter how large, you will fill it. Corollary: No matter how small, you’ll find a way to include what’s essential. Pick me for a Gura Gear bag and I’ll test my theory!

  14. I’ve enjoyed your online classes and your newsletter/blog. My closet is stuffed with bags I don’t love. I’d like to change that! Thanks for your generosity!

  15. Such a generous man, both with your time, knowledge and now this!
    Thanks David.

  16. Dear David,
I love your blog, your books, all your wonderful inspiration – and Canada too, of course ;-).
As luck would have it, my camera bag has just broken after 20 years of intensive use. And this bag would be just perfect for me! Will I be lucky enough to win it?

  17. Been following you and your work for a long time. I am also a huge fan of Gura Gear. I have a very old backpack of theirs that is truly worn out. But it has been the best bag ever! Thanks for being an awesome photographer and for working with Gura Gear on this! All the best!

  18. I have a very old backpack that needs replacing before I head to Bhutan for a photography adventure in April. I love your books and have gotten so much out of your online lessons. Your generosity in sharing your knowledge and experience is appreciated. Thank you!

  19. Hi David
I live in Australia and love travel and photography. Tried to buy a Guru Gear bag a few years ago but it was impossible to get it delivered to Melbourne Australia. I’m guessing being in Australia will eliminate me from this comp but as I love all your tutorials and the fabulous photography tips you give, I thought I’d do the Aussie thing and “give it a go anyway”.

Big fan of your work/YouTube channel.

  56. Count me in, I want it to be better than my 10 year old (any very crusty) Think Tank.

  57. You mean I can finally have a Camarea bag instead of putting all my gear in my pillow case? Please count me in, and thanks for all you do.

  58. I had a rough year for cameras last year. I’ve had to replace one and the other is limping along held together with gaffer tape. Since I’ve one new camera (and two new secondhand lenses cos why not?) it would be lovely to have a nice new home for them. Thanks heaps for the opportunity, David.

    1. Hi David, thank you for this incredible opportunity! Ever wonder how to tackle a huge challenge? Just like eating an elephant—one bite at a time. No obstacle is too big when we take it step by step.

  59. David. Can’t have enough travel gear. Gura gear fits that bill. Would gladly exchange current gear for some quality Gura gear. Thanks Jens

  67. I’ve been enjoying your blog for awhile now! Winning anything would be great. Thanks

  68. I am not much of a traveller but use equipment bags for local whale and large animal watching tours so would be interested in trying this equipment.

  69. David,
Sorry to say I have never tried Gura Gear. I’d like to try their products. I do hear good things about them. Any one of the three awards would be wonderful to at least give their products a try.

One word of caution – please don’t go over to the dark side and convert to a gear channel…….

    1. Wow … I would love some new Guragear for my adventures on Vancouver Island. Thanks.

      1. I’ve been enjoying your blog for years and would appreciate Guragear very much! It would be so helpful when traveling with my boys and beautiful pup. Thank you!!

  70. With an upcoming trip to Africa, a GuraGear bag would certainly ease the carrying of cameras and equipment!

  71. I love travel! And I love travel where there is so much to photograph. My upcoming trip to Africa is exciting and I am practicing now with anticipation of the excitement ahead. A GuraGear bag would be just the thing to add to the excitement of the trip!

  72. Gura Gear bags…
    Are.
    The.
    Best!
I have tried many other brands, but have only travelled the world with the Kiboko 2.0 30L because it beats the rest!
    Pick me!

  73. Hi David – wow…so many comments. I’ve followed you for many years and I’ve learned so much – not only about the craft, but also about myself. I thank you for both.

    Warmest Regards,
    Rande

  74. I absolutely love your art! I started following you after watching your interview with Nick Wilton on Art2Life. I have since purchased three of your books: “Within The Frame”, “The Soul of the Camera” and the signed limited edition of “Light, Space & Time”….the depth of the emotion is so inspiring!! I started becoming interested in photography many years ago when I purchased a Nikon F3. However, life stepped in and my passion for photography got put on a back burner. I recently started getting the call to pursue that passion again. I’ve been doing fine arts particularly mixed media and would love to incorporate photography. I purchased the Nikon D850 and would love one of the Gura Gear camera bags. Thanks for your thoughtful consideration….

  75. I love waves! And would deeply appreciate either a lighter gear bag or a sherpa.

  76. Really appreciate your guidance, from your newsletters to your recent interview with Base Camp Photos. Love you work and look forward to learning from you!

  77. I have read your blog for years, and it’s still as inspiring as ever.
I would love to participate in your giveaway.

    Thank you, David

    Lu

  78. Count me in and please keep inspiring us all with your insights, passion and enthusiasm for the craft! As a side note, my camera club loved your recorded lecture – a big thank you for that and much appreciated.

  79. Count me in! I never win anything, but I’m always game for a try. Very generous on multiple fronts. I know very little about Gura Gear (although I plan to delve into it as soon as I hit the send button for this.)
In all of your blog, books, videos, and (especially) courses you have never presented me with anything that has not been thought provoking or useful in my photography journey. I would expect no less in a gear recommendation from you – so thank you again, and again, and again.
    Paul

  80. Would love some new gear. I really appreciate your style and presence. Genuine warmth comes through. Great ideas and creative challenges.

  81. I love giveaways — though I’m now feeling seriously undertraveled. I guess that kid of mine will grow up and fly the coop eventually 🙂

  82. Looking forward to following you and Guru on your next adventure….

  83. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and tips…and also your gear!

  84. Thank you for this contest – I’ve been following you for years / decades. Love your writing and images.

  85. David,
There’s nothing I need or want but I thought Ud pop in and share some love♥️♥️

  86. Very kind of you, and Gura Gear, to pass these great items along. Would be happy with any of them.

  87. Sharing your experiences, or just read your message is like a gas station for my motivation to go out and shoot. Well looks like I am not the only one.
Thanks in advance and keep shooting.

  88. I’ve been reading Light, Space & Time. I do like the photographs very much. But I’m enjoying your writing very much as well. Thanks for making it a joy to read.

  97. Would love one of these and hopefully I can use it on a trip with you some day. Thank you!

  98. Ive heard great things about Gura Gear, do you know if the backpacks do well for women sizing? Thanks for the info and chance to get a pack for my trips this year!!

  99. Thank you for everything you share, it has helped me to look at my photography with different eyes. Thank you.

  100. Thank you for thinking of all of us. I love organized camera bags. I enjoy bear hunting but on my last trip out in BC I didn’t see any but knew they were around since my wife stepped in it, even when I warned her of the pile.

  101. Looking at the Gura Gear bags – it is exactly what I need, I have gone thru a few brands but the feedback I have heard has resulted in the Gura Gear bags being streets ahead, and perfect for my outback travels in Australia.

  102. I do actually love bears. lol. And I hope I’m lucky enough to go looking for some to photograph with some new gear. (smiley face)

  103. I have been following your adventures for years and it has been a fascinating evolution, your work is always interesting and, along with your words, thought provoking.

  104. I have always been curious about Gura gear bags. It would be great to finally get one. Thank you David!

    1. Hi David,

I am the best choice definitely or at least I dream I am! Many thanks for this great opportunity.
      All the best
      Emmanuel

  105. Hi David, one of the Guru bags might be a good replacement for my 13 year old photo backpack. So I’m in (not sure if Europe is eligible to take part but I would cover for the excess postage). Many thanks for the opportunity & all best!

  106. Some excellent prizes there David – thanks for thinking about all of us – and thanks to Gura Gear for providing

  107. Wow great, I like to join! Would be awesome to travel the world with this bag.

  109. So many wonderful people have posted here already. I hope my name is drawn but will be happy for whoever gets these great bags.

  110. This would have been great on our Zambia trip with you last year!!

  111. I always enjoy your gear posts. Books, boots, travel gear – I am walking in Blundstones and soon carrying a Gura bag, yay

  112. Thank you! I’m just about over carrying all my gear in thick bin liners!!! Appreciate your insight and attitude. Cheers!🥂

  113. I do love bears but you knew that already. One can never have enough bags.

  114. I’m currently planning a trip to Costa Rica to do some long anticipated bird photography and have been looking for an upgraded bag to keep my gear safe and sound. If I am fortunate enough to win, I will make sure this prize goes to good use!

  115. I really enjoy your posts. Love to see you up in Haida Gwaii sometime!
Thanks (to you and Guru Gear) for the chance for one of these prizes.

  116. Hi David,
First, thank you for sharing your view of photography, life and mostly your fights against what life sometimes throws at us.

Hey, I don’t want to miss the opportunity to say I do miss your podcast, just saying.

Thanks to you i have learned that the only photographer i need to beat is myself as I go on, day by day.

Keep at it my friend, and may life bless you for a long time.

    Robert

  117. Hi David, I don’t really need anything material because I’ve read many books and articles of yours and know one thing: If my photos are not good enough it is not because my camera or my lenses are not good – it is because I just did not do enough. That is a liberating feeling. So I use this as a chance to thank you, and to wish you good luck in your travels and endeavors.

    1. David I’m so inspired by your work and am looking forward to your new course coming out this spring.

  118. Of course I’m in.
    Rarely do I win anything.
I have done most of your courses, bought and read most of your books, and recommend your website to most of my own photography beginner students.
So I would love you to return some of that love with a chance to win the 30L camera bag please.
    Thanks

  119. Thank you for this opportunity for some new lightweight gear. It would be happily well used.

    Cheers, Wendy

  120. Thank you for all that you do, you are an inspiration. I’m fairly new to photography and could use any new gear that I can get so I do hope that you pick me.

    1. Love the way you focus on outcomes, not the technicalities. And would live to have a Gura Gear bag to 😉

  121. Pick Me! Thank You! I Like Bears! And all the other great stuff you do & share!

  122. I’ve been reading your blog, taking your courses — and coveting your gear bags! — for many years. Keep it up. You give me heart, as a human and as a photographer. ❤️🙏🏼. Thanks for your gifts to our world.

  123. Please include my name in the drawing. I am finally going to Africa ( a life long dream) and I would love a Gura Gear bag to pack my stuff in.😁

  124. Thanks, David, please count me in for the GGG (Gura Gear Giveaway)!

Since I’m here, I might as well make a comment on your newsletter (and blog, it appears)…

I thought the photo of you in this week’s newsletter, under the heading “Share The Love” is not very flattering. I’m sure you have better portraits of yourself than that! Now when I visit this blog, I see the same photo used in the ‘About David’ box.

    It’s just not ‘you’! 🙂
Maybe just show a bunch of self-portraits that you like to your family/friends/associates (or here on your blog?) and ask them to pick the ‘best’ one. Then tally the ‘likes’ to choose ‘the one’.

    1. I’m not sure how I responded twice. I’m so sorry. Please delete this one!! Apologies to all.
      Carol

  125. I’m In. I have enjoyed your Newsletter for quite some time. I look forward to continuing to read it. Thanks for doing this contest. Bags are always a tough one to determine with the amount of gear one carries over the years, so it’s nice to hear about different recommendations.

  126. After recently losing my husband to very aggressive cancer, traveling alone seems a little out of reach. I have been dreaming out loud to my dog as I read your blogs. PICK ME!! I think I’m ready!

  127. I’m in – retirement beckons and I need to get my travel kit organised…Tony H

  128. Thanks, David. Please add me to the draw list for the gear. Much appreciated!

  129. I had strongly considered a Gura Gear bag after your last posting about them, so I am in this time around.

    –Ken

  130. Thanks for all your photographs and writing. More than just “How to” but even better advice of “Why do.”

  131. My late husband definitely was a staunch supporter of Gura Gear and traveled everywhere with his Kiboko bag. Hope I win one of your prizes.

  132. A friend has a Kiboko bag and says it’s the best and most practical bag he has ever owned. Would absolutely love one myself but it’s just out of my budget. Here’s hoping.

  140. New to your mailing list and enjoying the content. Thanks for the inspiration! Had an opportunity to test a Kiboko 30L on a trip last year. Loved it! Would love to own one.

  141. I have had my 16L for several years and that’s the bag that made me stop collecting bags – it satisfied every need. I cant think of one feature I need or want that this bag doesnt have.

    1. Thanks, David, I’m in!
Been using Lowepro for years, but can certainly use another bag.

    1. I love reading your posts: very informative and easy to understand.

  142. Thank you, this is so generous! Love getting every one of your updates even though I don’t leave comments so this was a good reminder to let you know how much I enjoy and feel inspired by your work! 🙂

2026 will be my lucky 🍀 year!!

thanks for the chance to win and as always happy photo-ing!!

    diane

  148. Thank you for all the great guidance and inspiration all these years! Please keep it coming!

  149. The only thing better than a company that appreciates and takes care of their customers is a content creator who does the same and passes on that love.

Wishing nothing but the best to my favorite philosopher-photographer.

  150. Thanks David for all your educative posts – always look forward to reading your newsletter!

  151. Thank you for all the advices and lessons you share with us. For the love of the photography

  152. Excellent company, David and GuraGear. Great inspiration and products. Please enter me in the contest.

  153. Whenever I travel, I pack up my Kiboko 30L bag with all the gear I need for the journey. I love how one can access two different sides of the bag, without opening the whole bag, along with the multitude of ways to setup the dividers. Thanks fo all you do for the industry, David!

  154. I need. I need. I need these bags from Gura Gear and then I need just any excuse to take them somewhere and put them to use! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and insights and for your Love of the Photogrpah!

  155. I need. I need. I need these bags from Gura Gear and then I need just any excuse to take them somewhere and put them to use! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and insights and for your Live of the Photogrpah!

  158. Thank you for sharing so much information in such an easy to understand way. Your passion and caring for what you do and your unselfishness to share so much with so many other photographers is greatly appreciated. Thank you for an opportunity to win some gear.

  159. Yay! Thanks for thinking of us and congrats on being satisfied with what you have!

When I inherited Dad’s gear I didn’t inherit the storage. Would be great to have some amazing Gura Gear to tote my stuff in. So many beautiful opportunities here, would love to have everything ready in a go bag and do just that!

    Thanks!

  160. My camera deserves a better bag than the one I’ve been using. Entering this draw on its behalf. Thanx for the opportunity David 😉

  161. Thanks for this opportunity David. Would love to try a piece if this gear.

  162. Hi David, thanks for thinking of your readers by encouraging Gura Gear to do this giveaway on your behalf. I am eager to try these bags. While I don’t anticipate traveling too far from home in 2026 as I just opened a new studio/gallery, I am looking forward to some real adventures later in 2026 and early 2027. Thanks for the opportunity to participate!

  163. Who isn’t addicted to finding the perfect bag?! I’m up to try this one out. Thanks for the opportunity!

  164. I hope you pick me!! Thanks for all your fantastic content and your total commitment to bettering the craft!

  165. A girl can dream, can’t she?
Thanks David, for all the inspiration and for challenging me in my (relatively new) photographic journey. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

  166. David is an inspiration for life and photography. Appreciate opportunity to own this gear.

  167. Would be great to win one of these bags but either way – thanks. Keep up the articles – very inspiring!

  168. I have 3 of the bags and absolutely love them. They are amazing to use when shooting from a car. I leave it on the back seat open with cameras left ready to shoot. Can jump out of the car and be shooting in seconds.

    1. Just got the 16L bag, I agree Gura Gear bags are great. Please add me to the list.

  169. “Someone has been eating my porridge…” Your articles, books and courses are always outstanding with our without this opportunity of great gear.”

  170. I would love to have the opportunity to use any of these giveaways! Always looking to improve my photography and your articles are a big help on my journey to get better images. Thanks for that!

  171. This is awesome of you and Gura Gear. I too am weak and am always(to the chagrin of my wife) open to adding to my gear bag options! It would be cool to add any of these to my collection as I suspect they would supplant what I use now!

  172. I am a “baggie”. Always looking for the perfect bag. I have taken your courses and read your materials. If the bags are as good as you say they are, then I really need to try one. Thanks for the opportunity.

  173. Thank you for sending these emails, and for sharing your advice. Really makes a difference in my life. Please add me to the pool.

  174. David, I’ve been reading your books and viewing your courses for more than a decade, and it has certainly improved my photography. I have a few bags, but nowhere near as many as you do. Thanks for the opportunity, and for all your photography advice.

  175. Tried to give a comment but got reply that I have already said that???
Anyway would like to get a duffel.

  176. Love your work. Each Sunday, I look forward to your emails to learn something new. Thanks so much. Although I’m a ceramic sculptor I’ve recently got into macrophotography. Heading to Mexico and Costa Rica to do some photography in the next couple of months so I’ll be taking your advice with me!

  177. My camera club recently viewed your Heart of the Photography program. It was awesome! Thank you for making the program available.

The bags look awesome! Thanks for having the contest!

  178. I have a Chobe and it’s the best work and travel bag ever. I don’t think it needs any divider as it is already thinly padded all over.
I would love to get one of their duffels but I am currently using three North Face duffels in different sizes. They are okay but the Gura Gear ones are clearly better. Lighter, with better design on details.

  179. Thank you David. I have adopted many of your practices, gear and clothing recommendations over the years. Gura Gear make outstanding bags!

    1. I found you by accident and have been following you since. Thank you for sharing with us in the photography world …you are an inspiration.

  180. Love your blog, but I’m really only commenting so I can win a camera bag 😁

  181. I just got the backpack this past year. I’m sold. And if you were to ask, I like bears too. Pick me!

  182. Bonjour, j’aime beaucoup les ours. Je connais surtout les Ours noire très présent dans ma région.
Hello, I really like bears. I’m especially familiar with black bears, which are very common in my country.

  183. I just got the backpack this past year. I’m sold. And if you were to ask, I like bears too. ☺️

  184. I just got the backpack this past year. I’m sold. And I also like bears too. ☺️

  185. Who’s going to say no to this? I’m in. Thanks for all your motivation and teaching. I have two of your books and still have every episode of A Beautiful Anarchy to listen to or read.

  186. I would love any of these! Anything to make my photography experience better.
And, I love learning from you David!

  187. Would love a nice camera bag like this!!

Thanks for all the great info David.

  188. Love the Gura Gear bags, I’ve been with them since the very beginning.

  189. Always appreciate your emails and ideas. Especially enjoy my signed copy of Light, Space & Time.

  190. David, I discovered you just a few months ago and your books, podcsats and courses were instrumental in revitalizing my passion for photography. Thank you!

  191. Hey David, I very much approve of free stuff. I’m in. And OF COURSE I like bears.

  192. I have an 20 yr old camera bag on its last legs-it is “bearly” holding together. I would
welcome a new Gura bag!I have bought several of your courses and continue to review
    them for guidance and inspiration.

  193. I loved the blog before and especially love it after you proved what a survivor you are!

  194. Everyone needs another bag to go with the other 50. I love listening to your classes.

  195. I’ve followed you for a long time and really enjoyed some of your courses. Offering to share gear with your followers instead of just taking it yourself is completely in character for you. Thank you.

  196. Oh, my gosh, could I use any of those… thank you for the opportunity… and I love bears 🙂

  197. While the adult in me says I have enough bags, the kid in me grins at the prospect of getting one more. 🙂

  198. Count me in please, I love camera bags and the such. My first intro to you was recently through Angle McNall’s Basecamp seminar. Loved your inspiration, and photos and started following you on Instagram. Also glad to hear you are a fellow Canadian. I live and enjoy life in Vancouver and the west coast. Keep up the good work.

    1. Love everything you write David.
I’d be thrilled to be the lucky person to receive one of these prizes.

      Thanks so much .

  199. David, you have inspired my photography for many years now. I love the way you approach taking photos, and the insightful thoughts you have shared in so many ways. . .

  200. I only have one GuraGear Kiboko bag (22L+, 2012 edition), and it is so lonely. I would love for it to have versatile, tough, adventurous company that it can relate to. Please enter me in the drawing.

  201. Thanks for all the great advice and your books have really helped me advance my photographic skills. You are an inspiration 8n every way for all of us!

  202. Thanks for all the great advice and your books have really helped me advance my photographic skills.

  203. Thank you for the opportunity, David. I also think I should leave you a testimonial which you can use in any way you see fit.

As a life long (>50 years), and former professional, photographer I am very grateful for getting to know David duChemin. I first saw him in a presentation and subsequently signed up to his emails and followed him. To me his greatest attribute is not only his excellent description of techniques and processes – which are truly useful and practical. I think his greatest value lies in his deep appreciation of the why’s of photography, the moods, the subtle reasons we do it and, dare I say it, the philosophy of photography. Truly inspirational!

    Thank you, David,
    Jon

  204. What a generous offer, David. Your passion for photography is contagious. I’d love a new camera bag!

  205. I’m tentatively interested in the bags, but I have a question. How well do they fit women? In my case, I’m tall, very thin, somewhat short waisted, and have strongly defined hips. Backpack type stuff just doesn’t fit me properly, and trying to wear it anyway just leads to fatigue.

  206. I just starting reading “Within the Frame” 10th Anniversary Edition and I am loving it. Your passion for photography is insane and thank you for your books and online courses.

      1. I have just culled the newsletters I receive. There is only one left-never to be erased. The bags look great I need one but hey win or lose your emails will never be deleted.

    1. Thank you for your inspiring blogs. More than once you have motivated me to get off my 75 year old (a- -) and go out and take photos again.
I admire your courage after the amputation.
I have been taking photos since the age of twelve. Back then with an ancient Lica lent to me by a supportive clerk in a photographic store.
You help keep me going just like he got me started.
      André Huot

  207. So glad to get another opportunity to win a Gura bag. Thanks for all the information you share. I look forward to your weekly emails.

  208. Started following you about 5 yrs. ago. Taken a course and bought a couple books. Read the emails.

I’ve had both the Kiboko 22L+ and 30L since August 2012. Agree with you completely about how great they are.

  209. Would love to win one of these!! I have been following you for a number of years. You have been an inspiration in my photography!!

  210. I’ll make sure one of those bags “feels” as great as it looks if you send it to me. Enjoying your class right now!

    1. Thank you for running such a wonderful contest. Does saying I like the Chicago Bears count? Hope so!

  211. David,

You with Gura is my favorite partnership. So many good things continue to be created. That’s what it is all about!

    T

  212. I’m in and would love to win. Thank you. And yes I like your photographs of bears but am not sure I’d like to meet one. Hope you’ve recovered well. Thanks.

  213. Love your books and blog! And, even though I am now retired, a highlight of my photo teaching career was hosting you in Switzerland so many years ago. (The American School in Switzerland) Hope you are well!

  214. I’ve been following you all through Covid, thank you. I would love to try the Gura bag.

    1. Very generous David. Been a constant follower of your blogs, books and podcasts for many years.

Would love to grab one of these great prizes. I’m in!

      Thank you!

  215. Pick me! I love your books, your words and teachings. I’m off to Costa Rica in May and these would be perfect!

  216. Pick me! I love your books, your words and teachings. I’m off to Costa Rica in May and these would be perfect ❤️

  217. Love trying to dissect your work, keep it coming David. Would you also be so kind and enter my name in the draw.

  218. Thank you for sharing your skills and the great mentorship. Would love to receive this gift 🎁. Thank you and @guragear for your generosity.

  219. Followed you for years. Love your books and courses. I’d live to win gear!

    1. Guru gear for our camera guru Perfect!
I’d love to win some too. Thank you to both Gurus!🙏🏻
      Jennie

  220. Hello,

Happy new year and thank you for your blog whichb is always good to read,

    Have a nice day,

    P.S: Message from France

  221. I’ve bought many a bag in the past – most have been “the wrong choice” even though the quality of most of them have been good.
Haven’t given up on finding the right one as yet though!
    Fingers crossed.

    1. So great of you to think about your loyal followers, David! I feel like sometimes I’m along for the ride on your travels. Thank you!

  222. I always look forward to your Sunday missives! Am currently going through your Compelling Frame course with a friend. Really learning a lot from you. A modest wish, I think—would love winning the accessories package.

  223. Been following you and done a few of your courses for years. Hands down my favourite photographer ever!

  224. thank you, and I do like bears as well. one bag is not enough for photographers, would be a nice start to the year to have one. take care GM

  225. Love that you are living up to your name! Just started Shoot What It Ferls Like yesterday and am enjoying the series. Thanks for all you do to help us grow.

  226. Thanks for all the thoughtful ideas about photography (I do like bears – went to Lake Clark Nat Park last year just for that!) Wouldn’t hurt to have a Gura Gear bag for the next time 🙂

  227. How can I say no to such a great invitation on this frigid Sunday morning in Quebec? Yes, I want any of those bags! Thanks!

  228. Looking forward to seeing what you capture and reading your stories on your next great adventure as you chase the light. I am in the process of selecting my next set of travel gear based on my last adventure as a Europhile (planes, trains, and automobiles) including the full experience of being pickpocketed in Versailles. Gotta love it, not. I am wondering how this gear will address the changes in security, weight and dimensions as they are getting tighter (and hopefully standardized).

  229. Thanks for offering this opportunity. Thought about you a lot since Jan 8 when I shattered my left ankle while in recovery from shoulder replacement surgery. Take care (and I do love bears too).

    1. I am a new subscriber having recently ordered the mood course. The first blog of yours that I read was the Oh Sh*t one which gave me the idea of having a separate toiletry kit and cable charger kit, packed and ready for travel saving me time packing when I would have to retrieve individual items. I can’t believe I didn’t think about this in all my decades of traveling.

I can’t believe I didn’t think about this in all my decades of traveling.

    3. I am Alec and I am a camera bag collector. After an intervention from my wife I am forbidden from buying any new bags camera or duffel for 12 months.

Winning a new duffel sure would be nice.

  230. Camera bags not only carry your equipment but also collect memories throughout your journeys.

  231. Please add me to the list of contenders for Gura Gear drawing! Any of those could help me with my first overseas trip to Scotland!

  232. Yes, please! Very considerate and generous of you to make this happen. Much appreciated,

    1. Without question David’s thoughtful writings and videos help me to take my photography to another level. It’s not the gear. It’s the thought, planning and vision behind the camera. Thanks David.

    2. Without question David’s thoughtful writings and videos help me to take my photography to another level. It’s not the gear. It’s the thought, planning and vision behind the camera. Thanks David.

  233. Your online training courses and the additional information you so willingly share have helped me to improve my photographer’s ‘eye’ over the years. Thanks for your inspiration and motivation ….. and for this opportunity to update my travel kit too!.

  234. Love your book! And if I win a bag big enough to hold a 600mm f/4, I just might buy the lens.

  235. Wow! Hardly any responses to your very generous offer of free gear. I’m almost guaranteed to win one of ’em.

But seriously. I always enjoy reading your writing. Thanks.

  236. “Wow – there’s nothing I need.” If I think about, I could probably say the same. But I have always thought about trying some Gura Gear so here I am in the comments…

  237. David, I’m sure you’ll remember your very first Zoom presentation to a camera club—Monday, December 7, 2020–to the West Shore Photography Club in south-central PA. As President, I worked with Corwin to make it happen. Thanks for all you do!

  238. I love all your courses and the oh sh*t bag and tools that you spoke about the other day (I bought one!). Thanks for making me a better observer and I’d love to be entered into the drawing.

  239. I am delighted to see all your followers chiming in. All the best. Charles (ChasM)

  240. Thanks for the chance to win. I love Sunday mornings, because The Contact Sheet arrives. There’s nothing better than a hot cup of coffee and some thoughtful insights from you…

  241. I have been looking for a new camera bag and Guragear bag would be an awesome addition that I could use reliably for years to come.

  242. This bag thing is an impulse to do something I was thinkink about for years: I want to thank you for alle the support and impulses for my photography. You gave me so much more than technical information, you gave me a philosophy in your books and in one online course I took: Thank you! And if I win a bag, I’m happy. And if not I’m happy too because I finally managed to say that!

  243. I bought myself a Gura Gear Kiboko 16L for my trip last summer and loved it. If it is possible to have too much of a good thing I haven’t gotten there yet, so count me in on this draw.

  244. Just returned from South African Safari with Gura Gear Duffle, backpack, and Chobe. Absolutely love this equipment.

  245. I bought a Gura Gear Kiboko 16L for my trip last summer and love it. If you can have too much of a good thing I haven’t gotten there yet, so count me in on this draw.

  246. David, yes please, count me in. Thanks much to you and Gura Gear. I have an older, smaller GG bag and would love to get the 30L.

  247. Thanks for this opportunity. I am on your mailing list and read a lot of your material. The perfect camera bag is an elusive animal – I’ve tried several. Would love to have the chance to try the one you so enthusiastically recommend!

  248. I’m in – how generous!
This, in addition to the knowledge and inspiration you regularly impart in your emails. Btw, great interview on the Camera Life!

  249. Would love a lightweight travel bag. As I get older I find I can carry less. A light bag would solve this. That 30l looks perfect.
    Cheers, Wendy

  250. Hi David,

I have a few camera bags too but you can never have too many….
    So count me in!

    Robert

  251. Would love a lightweight travel bag. As I get older I find I can carry less. A light bag would solve this. That 30l looks perfect.
    Cheers, Wendy

  252. To have the same gear bag you carried on all tour trips would be amazing! So
    I’m in!
    Pick me!
    I like bears!
Thanks for all the great courses and writings you create

  253. Thanks for Kenya David, say hi to Cynthia for me! Still holding out for a spot in BEAR CAMP…

  254. Why is it that photographers have so many bags? I’ve thought about this a lot because I have my fair share. What I don’t have is a large camera bag suitable for travel. I’ll be upfront about this—I don’t carry three bodies, eight lenses, a tripod, a spare tripod, a laptop, a flash unit, a flash umbrella and a dozen batteries and chargers. What I do carry is a couple cameras and depending on the nature of the trip, four lenses, max. Truth is, there are people who could use a larger bag more than me, but I do carry a duffel bag as a carry-on, and that also doubles as my carry-on for non-photography related stuff and my camera gear. The latter gets divvied up for the specific task de jour. That bag, while nice, isn’t big enough and its just a big open sack. The Kiboko 30L+ camera backpack with dividers would be sweet. Thanks, David.

  255. Just finishing your book Light, Space, Time. So good! Thanks for your continued photography education, much appreciated. Would love to win one of these prizes. I’m still searching for my ideal camera bag.

  256. I’m interested, Guragear seems like having interesting backs even though I’ve never used them.

  257. Thank you! Would love the duffel or the organizers. I purchased the 30L backpack for my trip to Svalbard last July and it worked great.

  258. Hi David ! That’s always great to hear frim you. Thanks for having thought about us. “Beaux Bonjours” from Sherbrooke, Qc

  259. New to your mailing list and enjoy the content. I too love bears and dream of a trip to photograph them here in Canada

  260. Always up for winning something. Don’t know that I ever have. Maybe this is the one!

  261. I’m in! Just waiting for my daughter to pick a travel destination this coming fall when she’s done school.

  262. I enjoy your blog, thanks for all your work putting it up. Can certainly make good use of a nice bag.

  263. Only been on board a few months and have appreciated the education thus far. Thank you!

  264. Hi David

Count me in. I’m still on the quest for the perfect camera bag.

    1. i’m in! What is it about photographers -we are always searching for “ that bag” 😂. I’m a pouch junkie too. Going to check them out anyway.

Thx David. I have learned so much from your photos, your blog and your books. And I really miss your podcasts – you accompanied me on many days and hours in my garden.
Now adding gear to the list.

  265. I have earned a lot from your composition and mood classes! You come highly recommended by David Kingham and Sam Krisch. Keep up the great work!

    Bill

  266. David – through your books, blog posts, courses, and emails you’ve been a teacher, a mentor (whether you knew it or not), and inspiration to me over many, many years. Thank you. Some day I’d like to join you on one of your expeditions. Please continue to fight the good fight and keep creating the the great work!

  267. Fun personal story related to your “of the road” anecdote: my mom recently told me that when I was a baby, the only way they could get me to stop crying was to take me for a ride in the car. Probably explains why I live in a van now. 😂 Right now it’s the only thing that can get me to stop crying. heh. #funnynotfunny

Would love to add my name to the draw. Thanks to you and Guru for offering this to others.

  268. Your books were my first inspirations. I use a Gura Gear Uinta bag that I bought with a gift card given to me on my retirement 10 years ago. It’s been on about 40 International trips and many more domestic trips with me. The only problem is that it is a little long on my frame so I’m carrying it all on my shoulders. But I still love it and it meets all of my needs.

  269. I’ll be getting back out to photograph our area soon, and I’d so love to have some good gear. Thanks for the generosity!

  270. I love the Chicago Bears, but haven’t shot them.

Eastern Bluebirds are my favorite. I monitor nesting boxes for our county conservation district, The bonus is that I get to see first hand when there are babies, and therefore feeding activity to photograph.

As I used to say in grade school while raising my hand vigorously and knowing the answer to the teachers question…”pick me, pick me, pick me”.

  271. Thank you Dave and Gura Gear for the wonderful opportunity to win some great camera gear! Please pick me! I finally decided that it is time to get out of the house and start making photographs again.

  272. I’m in! Thank you for the inspiration and encouragement you provide!

  273. Thanks for your contagious passion for photography. And thanks for the opportunity to win some quality gear.

    1. Pick me!!! I’ve been a fan for many years. You, along with other Canadian photographers inspired me to take up the camera and shot. Thank you for sharing your story

  274. Love your email and ebooks. We don’t have bears in The Netherlands (at least not in the wild (yet)). But our cats are lovely animal models.

  275. I love to travel and photograph wildlife. Especially bears. My favorite is a young bear standing on his hind legs front paws on a tree looking at me. I got it in Waterton Lakes National Park

  276. Over the decades I have used a wide variety from small to backback size. Would love to try one of your favourites? Please include me in the lottery!

  277. I really appreciate your newsletters and I’m looking forward to travelling with you later in the year.
Please count me into the draw.
    Thanks.,

  278. I love your blog and the insights you provide – they are not necessarily the how “tos” of the mechanics but the how to see differently, more meaningfully, how to feel, and even how to be different. Thank you David! Wish I was on my way to Kenya again with you. Soon, I hope.

Count me in for the Guts gear please. Thanks

Hope I win- time for a new bag!

  285. I have always enjoyed your blogs, talks, and books. I share the link to your blog with all the people who ask me when they start to take photographs to the next level, from ‘happy snaps’, who should I read?

  286. I have had my Kiboda bag for almost 15 years now, have traveled alot with it. It is starting to show signs of the wear. But I would always only replace it with a new Kiboda.

  287. David, you have become on of my favorite photography blogs. Discovered you last year and look forward to your insights and shared experiences. Also a fan of Gura gear. Agree with your comments regarding their quality. And their design.
    All the best – Renze

  293. This is such a great way to give back David – I love my Gura Gear backpacks and I have 3 different ones (I can so relate to your having 8) and I also have a Chobe for carry on gear as well as the accessory packs. I’ve been thinking seriously about getting a duffel, so that would be an amazing item to win.

    thanks again for the opportunity
    Pam

  294. Hi David, You say you and your gear have been to a lot of countries.. but have you ever been to the Netherlands? No wildlife here.. although if you go to a local supermarket you would be amazed and you would desperately need some sturdy gear.. So think of me when you prepare yourself to draw

  295. I’m in! Also, thank you for the thought provoking books and content you share. I read your book “The Visual Toolbox” in 2017 and most recently “Light, Space & Time”. I always learn a great deal from your insights. Thanks for sharing.

  296. Pick me, pick me, pick me. Ok, I’m in for this. Love your work and all that you share with us.

  299. Pick me! Pick me! Pick me! I’ve been using the same bag for 15-20 years and needless to say I could really use a new camera bag.

  300. I would really like to win one of these offerings! Ready to apply what I learned from “Shoot What It Feels Like” and BTW, I like photographs of bears. 🐻

  301. Your photos are my inspiration…your books my photographic Bibles. Thank you.

  302. I won’t be missing out on this giveaway. I’ve settled on Tenba for my hobby kit, but I am always interested in what other folks are using. Seeing how much you highly endorse this brand has me curious. I hope I’m one of the lucky ones.

  303. I loved your insight into photography – and have learned a lot from the courses I purchased so far! Would love the gear to go with my first trip to
Photograph bears in Alaska this summer!

  304. There are countless photography blogs to follow, but if I had to choose only one, it would be David duChemin’s. His writing reaches into me as a photographer in a way that is both inspirational and formative. David is less concerned with teaching how to make a better photograph than with helping us become better photographers. His focus is on the one who stands behind the camera—the maker of the image—and that emphasis continues to challenge and draw me forward in my own work.

  305. Pick me! I read your posts and you have helped me on my photography journey so thank you.

  306. Hi David,
Count me in! My photography has grown with nuance and thoughtfulness because of the lessons I have learned from your courses, books, and blog posts. Thank you for thinking of us. Have a great day and don’t work too hard.

  307. Thanks for the opportunity to win. Also, I’ve enrolled in your Shoot What It Feels Like course and am really enjoying it so far. Thanks for sharing your insights in the course.

  310. I really like to read your blog. I like your vision of photography and the way you explain it. Thank you for giving us a chance to win some great gear.

  311. Here to say “hi” and to submit my name for consideration on your camera bag giveaway.

Currently re-reading A Beautiful Anarchy here in North Carolina during the ice storm.

Also, my teenager’s first photo book was my hand-me-down copy of Visual Toolbox.

    Cheers!

  312. I like birds and bears! Also, really enjoying your new book, especially all the wildlife photos you included!

  313. I’ve read where you’ve mentioned their gear before – and coming from you it is a ringing endorsement! Thanks for the chance to win.
