Last Chance for Shutterstock’s 2010 Photo Safari Contest

In Just For Fun, Travel by David9 Comments

I just got a reminder that today is the last day to enter Shutterstock’s 2010 Photo Safari Contest, co-sponsored by B&H Photo and Zozi.  Enter your best travel photo (the prize is a a safari, the photograph doesn’t have to be) for a chance to win a 6-night African Photo Safari Adventure. Once you’ve uploaded your amazing shot, encourage your friends to cast their votes for your pic. I’ll be judging the finalists on May 13th – May 17th, along with my friends Chase Jarvis and Zack Arias and winners will be announced on May 20th. To enter, click HERE.

As with all contests be sure to read the fine print. I’m just helping to judge this one, it’s not my contest, and I haven’t had a look at the rules with a magnifying glass either. But the prize is sweet and if you’re jonesin’ for a fantastic trip to Africa, and you’re cool with the rules, this is a chance at some pretty fun travel. Good luck!

  1. Commenter number 6 is incorrect. The rules say sponsors can use images “solely in connection with the promotion of the Contest” for 24 months.

    @ be Careful, thanks for the heads-up, but why the anonymity?

  3. Kudos to the sponsors for NOT making this one of those contests where all rights to all entries become their property forever. This is the way photo contests ought to be run.

  4. Here’s the small print. Basically by “entering” you give all rights of your image to any of the sponsors for 24 months.

    Be careful on this one.

    3. ENTRY
    a. To enter this Contest, please submit, during the Promotion Period, what you believe to be is your best travel-related photo by uploading a digital file of that photo using the web site http://shutterstock.com/photosafaricontest. Photo copyrights remain the property of the contest entrants. Entries received after the Promotion Period shall be ineligible for participation. Sponsor reserves the right to offer additional methods of entry from time to time during the Promotion Period. Once you submit your image, you will be officially entered into the Contest.

    b. By submitting your image, you represent and warrant that: i) the image is your own original creation and you own all the rights, including the copyright, to the image; ii) you have acquired written permission (i.e., a model or property release as applicable) from all persons who appear or whose property appears in the image; iii) the image does not depict illegal, dangerous, or unsafe activity, does not disparage competitors, is intended for family audience viewing, and has not been copied in whole or in part from any other work; iv) the image does not violate or infringe any copyright, trademark or other proprietary right of any person or entity (including any rights of privacy or publicity). Sponsor has the sole and unfettered discretion to determine whether submitted images are suitable for all persons over the age of 13, disparaging, libelous or otherwise inappropriate; promote any product or services of competitors; or contain copyrighted works. Sponsor in its sole discretion may decide to disqualify any inappropriate entry.

    c. By entering the Contest, you grant Sponsor and anyone it may authorize permission to display the image on Sponsor’s website or the website of any co-sponsor of this Contest. Winner agrees to allow the use of his/her names, likeness, and/or voice in publicity or advertising concerning this promotion without compensation. Participant agrees and acknowledges Sponsor may have access to material that is similar or identical to Participant’s image and that the Participant shall not be entitled to any compensation for any use by Sponsor of this similar material.

    d. As a condition of entry, Contest Participants irrevocably grant to Sponsor, Co-sponsors and their affiliates, legal representatives, assigns, agents and licensees a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sublicensable, unconditional and transferable right and license for up to 24 months following the Promotion Period to:

    i. Reproduce, encode, store, modify, copy, transmit, publish, post, broadcast, display, publicly perform, adapt, exhibit and/or otherwise use or reuse (without limitation, as to when or to the number of times used), the Participant’s name, address, image, likeness, statements, biographical material in contest promotions;

    ii. Use the Participant’s submitted image for advertising, promotion or commercial purposes solely in connection with the promotion of the Contest and the right, without limitation, to publicly display, reproduce and distribute the submitted image in any media format or medium and through any media channel, solely in connection with the promotion of the Contest;

    e. Contest Participants irrevocably forfeit rights of privacy, intellectual property rights or other legal rights that would preclude Sponsor or affiliates from using the submitted image for promotional purposes only. Participant agrees that he / she will never sue or assert any claim against the Sponsor’s use of the submitted image, provided that such use does not violate the terms hereof.

    f. You may not, under any circumstances enter this Contest more than once. Multiple entries will be void, ineligible and result in the disqualification of any participant violating this rule.

    g. Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, garbled, illegible, or misdirected entries, or for any error, human, technical or otherwise, which may occur in the processing of any entries. Proof of sending will not be deemed to be proof of receipt.

    h. Participants may not enter with multiple email addresses and/or multiple identities, nor may Participants use any other device or artifice to submit more than one entry. Any Participant who attempts to enter the Contest with multiple email addresses and/or multiple identities or uses any device or artifice to submit more than one entry may be disqualified.

    i. Sponsor shall have the right to disqualify any entries that it deems to be obscene, vulgar, sexually explicit, lewd, derogatory, inappropriate, or otherwise not in good taste, as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion.
