New Work Posted

There’s some new work posted to my portfolios, representing some of my favourite photographs from the last couple months. Click either of the images above to be taken to my recent work from Kenya and Hokkaido, respectively. I love the new direction my work is taking, though I’m at a loss to say where it comes from. There is, I think, a common theme in the simplicity of the photographs, but I also think there’s something in the work that arises purely from my love of the places and people I’m photographing these days. Perhaps it’s a contentedness.

Off to the Rockies for week tomorrow morning. A road trip to and from the Persistent Vision seminar put on by Darwin Wiggett in Bragg Creek, just south of Calgary, Alberta. Friday and Sunday are sold out but there’s still a few seats left for the Saturday event. On Monday, March 18, I’ll be at The Camera Store in Calgary, signing books and saying hello. 11am to 1pm. I’d love to see you in either place.

Don’t forget to get in on the draw for some of my work prints, and if you print your work, you can read about my process when printing.

  1. David,
I think your recently posted pictures are among the strongest I have seen from you, which is interesting because they are so diverse – people, critters, landscapes. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I’m loving the black and white on a white background for your latest portrait work. It really simplifies the frame and isolates the subject. Count me in on a drawing for a print!

  3. I love the Hokkaido portfolio! Just love it! So simple, clean, quiet and calm. It is very different from all the color in your three books I have, but new directions help to keep us on our toes. I am a fan of all of your wok, but this series especially. Well done!

  4. I love your work. this series is stunning. i’ve seen you use so much color, this white on white is a different direction and i just love it. please enter me in the drawing!

  5. David, the high key, minimalistic images from Hokkaido are just fantastic! Totally inspiring for those of who live in the white north – a new way of seeing the snow and what’s in it! Awesome! Safe travels!

  6. Have a safe trip David. I did the trip to Vancouver for the first gathering but doing that trip in the winter could be challenging. But with your jeep you should be ok.

  7. Dear David,

I absolutely love your new collection! Especially the ones with the white background. Repetitively the same pattern and very inspiriting! How did you get the white background? In what kind of lighting did you capture the photographs looks to me very diffuse like on a very foggy day.

  8. My favorite is #17 in the Hokkaido series. I would put that on my wall. Nice, abstract, simple. Good job with the white on white, it’s not easy I imagine!

  9. Ah, I can’t win for losing! I used to live in Calgary, but now am in North Carolina. Would sure love to have taken in Darwin’s seminar and to have had the chance to meet you. Oh well, c’est la vie! Have a good time in Alberta!
